Who are we ?

Royal College Old Boys' East Coast Association (RCOBECA) was established in 1993 as an organization for the alumni of Royal College, Sri Lanka living in the East Coast of the United States. It was founded with the intention of bringing the alumni and their families together for social activities and sports, but more importantly to serve as a charitable organization to help the students of Royal College. In 2017, a Public Non-Profit 501(c)3 organization by the name of Royal College Old Boys' East Coast Foundation (RCOBEC Foundation) was created. All future activities by RCOBECA will be handled by the RCOBEC Foundation.

A look back

The Royal College Old Boys East Coast Association was formed in 1993 by a small group of Old Royalists living in the tri-state area.

The inaugural committee worked diligently to get the Association off the ground. This included the framing of the constitution, registering the Association, enrolling members, and organizing the first Dinner Dance.

The success of the Association can be attributed to a number of factors.

Firstly, there has been a regular schedule of events held every year in which a large number of Royalists and non-Royalists participate.

Secondly, funds raised from these events have been channeled to help future generations of Royalists in Sri Lanka.

To date RCOBECA has contributed over $8,000 to Royal for the installation of a public address system which is now in use throughout the entire school.

Another $8,500 was remitted towards the construction of a new hostel that will enhance the educational experience for students of Royal from various parts of the Island.

In a joint project launched in 2002 with RCOBANA in the west coast, and with private contributions from a number of former oarsmen and Old Royalists from around the world, RCOBECA donated two new boats to the Royal College Rowing Club that is now being used by the Rowing Team. A donation of $350 was also made to purchase table tennis tables.

In August 2003 we received a plea of support from Ambassador Mahendran for assistance to flood victims in Sri Lanka. RCOBECA responded with a donation of $1,000 towards helping the families that suffered losses from the catastrophe. In addition, we have contributed $4,900 (the net profit from the dinner dance) towards reconstruction of schools affected by the Tsunami in 2004.

RCOBECA also facilitated the transfer of over 60 computers, monitors and printers obtained from the UN, to the college computer lab.  Contributions have also been made to the Raba Gunasekera Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Drama Society.

Over the past several years RCOBECA has provided financial assistance to various Royal College projects and continues to do so in a favorable manor. RCOBECA has also started to provide assistance to underprivileged schools in various parts of Sri Lanka to help the poor and needy. Please take a look at our Projects page to see our latest contributions to Royal College and Sri Lanka.
