The new facility is equipped with high-definition video conferencing, interactive whiteboards, and advanced audio systems that will serve as a hub for interactive teaching, video conferencing, and collaborative learning. The ceremonial opening, held on August 29th, was attended by distinguished guests including Dr. Sudath Rannulu, President of RCOBECF (2024/2025) and co-sponsor of the project, Mr. Prashanth Wijedasa, CEO of DiNi Communications, Inc., Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Admiral Ravindra C. Wijegunaratne, current high commissioner for Islamabad, Pakistan, and former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), past presidents of the RCOBEC Foundation, and members of the Royal College Union.
Dr. Sudath Rannulu, in his inaugural address, emphasized the importance of such initiatives in nurturing the next generation of leaders. “This Smart Conference Room is a testament to the commitment of RCOBECF to supporting Royal College and its students,” he said.
Mr. Prashanth Wijedasa, whose company DiNi Communications, Inc., played a pivotal role in the project expressed his pride in being part of such a meaningful endeavor. “Technology has the power to transform education and we are delighted to have contributed to creating this state-of-the-art facility,” he said.
Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, representing the Sri Lanka Navy, highlighted the importance of partnerships between the military and educational institutions. “The Sri Lanka Navy is committed to supporting the development of Sri Lanka’s youth,” he said. “We are honored to have been involved in this project and have contributed to renovating the existing facilities here that will benefit generations of Royal College students.”
Mr. Thilak Waththuhewa, the Principal of Royal College, graciously accepted the renovated conference room, recognizing it as a “symbol of progress, collaboration, and the enduring spirit of generosity that defines the Royal College community.” He expressed his deep gratitude to RCOBECF, DiNi Communications, Inc., and the Sri Lanka Navy for their unwavering support and dedication. The principal also highlighted the instrumental role played by Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, who personally oversaw the project and ensured its timely completion, and acknowledged the Navy’s numerous contributions to the college and its students over the years.
In a touching gesture of appreciation, special tokens of appreciation were presented to the Navy service members who tirelessly worked on the project. Their dedication and hard work were instrumental in bringing this vision to life, further solidifying the bond between the Royal College and the Sri Lanka Navy.
The ceremonial opening was further enhanced by the virtual participation of current committee members including the current secretary, treasurer, and past RCOBECF presidents, who joined the event remotely from the United States, showcasing the capabilities of the new conference room’s technology. Their presence underscored the foundation’s enduring commitment to its mission and the importance of preserving its legacy.
