Royal College Swimming Complex Sports Recovery Center Inaugurated

 

 

A significant milestone in the realm of sports development was marked at Royal College Colombo with the grand opening of the Swimming Complex Sports Recovery Center, a facility dedicated to enhancing the well-being and performance of the school’s swimmers and athletes. This state-of-the-art recovery center was made possible by the generous funding and unwavering support of the Royal College Old Boys’ East Coast Foundation, USA. Recognizing the importance of recovery and rehabilitation in sports, the Foundation contributed to establishing a facility that aligns with global standards, ensuring that Royal College athletes are equipped with the best resources to excel in their disciplines.

The ceremonial handing over of the center took place on May 20, 2024. The president of the Royal College Old Boys’ East Coast Foundation, Mr. Rushdhun Ramzy, officially handed over the facility to the Principal of Royal College in the presence of students, staff, alumni, and distinguished guests. The Sports Recovery Center, housed within the iconic Royal College Swimming Complex, is designed to support the physical and mental health of athletes through advanced recovery and rehabilitation methods. From hydrotherapy and sports massage to physiotherapy equipment and relaxation areas, the center aims to enhance performance, reduce injury risks, and support holistic athlete development.

Principal Thilak Waththuhewa, while accepting the facility on behalf of Royal College, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Old Boys’ Foundation for their remarkable contribution. He stated, “This Recovery Center represents a new chapter in our commitment to developing well-rounded athletes. It is a testament to the enduring support of our alumni, whose efforts continue to inspire and uplift the Royal College family.”

Mr. Rushdhun Ramzy, during his address, emphasized the importance of fostering a strong connection between past and present Royalists. “This project is a reflection of our dedication to ensuring the success and well-being of our young athletes. As alumni, it is our privilege to give back and ensure that the next generation of Royalists is prepared to shine on national and international stages.”

The inauguration of the Sports Recovery Center not only strengthens Royal College’s position as a leader in school sports but also underscores the power of global alumni networks in fostering growth and progress.
